We wouldn’t be much of a homewear accessories brand if we didn’t care about the one we all share would we? That’s why we made some decisions around what we could do to minimize the impact our products would have on the planet. Here’s what we came up with:

PACKAGING & PLASTICS

STILEY products are packaged in recyclable materials. There are NO plastics included in any of our boxes. We use recyclable paper or cardboard to protect, and house, all fixings and fittings. Rest assured Polystyrene and Styrofoam are dirty words around our warehouse. Did you know it’s estimated that these two materials account for 30% of all landfill waste and it can take thousands of years to decompose? Not just that…there’s a good chance your child/pet/partner* will get tempted by it and start making a mess. Oh, and to top it off, it squeaks, so it’s a no from us.

*If you’re reading thinking “my partner is a sensible sort and wouldn’t dream of doing this!”, then you’re the one we’re talking about cough, cough…

LABELS

Our labels and packing tape are both paper based and fully compostable. “But what about the inks?” I hear you say. Ha! Nice try, you’ll have to get up a lot earlier to catch us out - our inks are eco-friendly and biodegradable.

NO CHROME (Cr6+)

When we began developing our hardware the team was unanimous in the decision to never stock any product that was plated with Hexavalent Chrome (Cr6+). Not only does the shiny, silver effect coating look a little dated, and not up to STILEY standards, the ways in which it is manufactured raises a lot of ethical questions.

The vapour given off during the plating process is carcinogenic. When used in an unregulated environment, with no PPE, it can be extremely damaging to the health of those who come into regular contact with it. The left-over chemicals need to be treated rigorously so as to not enter ground water, or pollute the environment. We don’t think anyone’s health, or environment, should have to suffer to make our products and we wouldn’t expect you to choose STILEY if we allowed this to happen.
